The application for the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) Human Resources Bursary for the academic year 2021/2022 is now open by Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) for all South Africans in South Africa. 


The Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) hereby invites all outstanding students to apply for the Human Resources Bursary. It is meant for students that intend to, or are currently studying towards degree and diploma programmes that are aligned to the following listed below:

  • A three-year post-matric Human Resources qualification (attach transcript)
  • New entrants into HR environment (in other words you must not have held an HR internship before)
  • Computer literacy (MS Office Suite)
  • Ability to pay attention to detail
  • Must be a South African citizen


  • Time management
  • Confidentiality, tact and discretion when dealing with people
  • Good communication and Interpersonal skills
  • Planning and organising
  • Client orientation
  • Result focus
  • Stress tolerance


  • Perform HR administration tasks and provide support to the HR Department
  • Respond to all HR-related queries, under supervision
  • Assist with all the activities of the Human Resources Department
    • Organize and schedule meetings
    • Minute taking
    • Typing of letters, memos and reports
    • Filing
    • Travelling logistics
    • Accommodation Bookings
  • Rotated to receive exposure to relevant HR functions
  • Contribute to the overall development of SMU and actively improve institutional culture
  • Any other HR related duties assigned by the office

  • It is the applicant’s responsibility to have foreign qualifications evaluated by the South African qualification Authority (SAQA). Failure to submit the requested documents/information will result in your application not being considered.
  • A database of applications received through this advert will be kept for 24 months. Further placements pertaining to this post within the 24 months period will be made from that database.


  • Completed applications need to be submitted on or before 22 September 2021.
